He then commenced a Business Analyst role with Pasminco (now Oz Minerals), working on a business improvement project at the Cockle Creek lead & zinc manufacturing plant alongside consulting professionals led by the highly regarded firm Partners in Performance
In 2003 Shaun moved into a supply chain role managing the transport, logistics and inventory for all concentrate and raw materials in the lead & zinc smelting process.
During this period he commenced and completed post graduate studies in Applied Finance.
Shaun moved into the mining industry when relocating to Central Queensland in 2004. Working for an SME as an Operations Manager with an open-cut mining contractor he honed his management skills to increase productivity, client retention and overall profitability.
In 2005 Shaun joined Rio Tinto Procurement as a Senior Sourcing Specialist, based in the NSW Coal mining region, where he co-managed over $1 billion of spend in high value categories such Temp Labour, MRO and capital expenditure. His exposure to procurement frameworks, contract governance and sourcing & category management are key features of his approach to procurement to this day.
In late 2008 Shaun accepted the role of National Procurement Manager (FM) with Compass Group, a market leading global provider of food and support services. Here he managed all subcontractors and services across over 500 operating sites in Australia. In 2012 he moved into the role of Head of Procurement (Indirect), covering the 'A-Z' of the business’ non-food hospitality categories. His team delivered long-term savings outcomes in categories such as travel ($25m pa), consumables & disposables (>$30mpa) and logistics (>$12mpa); as well as managing over 80 support categories including ICT, uniforms, and fleet all with an aggregate of over $250m spend per year.
In 2015 he achieved his MCIPS qualification and is now the holder of Chartered status.
Throughout the period 2011-2018 Shaun also developed a successful award-winning supplier diversity program when engaging indigenous businesses. Read more about the program here.
Most recently in 2018-19, the supply chain function at Compass Group transformed into a sector-based model under the existing global brand and business model, Foodbuy. Under Foodbuy procurement shifted from a traditional ‘cost center’ department to a P&L-based outsourced model. As Head of Procurement Capability, Shaun developed and implemented key capability pillars including the Foodbuy procurement framework, training, implementation of source-to-contract technology and a client engagement program to underpin the new operating model.
